A quick photoblog of De Hoop

Here are a few snaps of Tom and my lovely weekend in De Hoop. What a special place – just as tranquil and gorgeous as I remember it being when I visited it when I was little. The De Hoop Collection offers lovely accommodation in the heart of the Cape Nature Reserve, so you can sleep with the noise of bontebok grazing outside your window. imageimageThe Collection rests on the banks of the vlei, which stretches as far as the eye can see and attracts all manner of birds. We sat and watched a giant kingfisher darting for fish mere metres from where we were resting. imageimageThe marine reserve incorporates an extensive coastline, which intersects with the famous Whale Trail. We were out of whale season (June – November) but still had a wonderful time wandering across the dunes and scouting for starfish in the rock pools. imageimageimageimageimageWe went on a two and a half hour mountain biking tour around the reserve with a very knowledgeable guide who showed us all kinds of fynbos and took us to a viewing spot overlooking the vlei and home to the elusive Cape clawless otters. image
