Exploring Erf81

A photo essay exploring one of my latest Cape Town finds – the Erf81 farm just up the road from my flat. From the lovely Andre the artist with his epic beard that puts all hipsters to shame, to Polly the parrot-kitten who perches on shoulders, a library of burnt books, a studio of the lost and forgotten, Skattebol the pony, a nursery of sweet-smelling herbs and a selection of make-shift frog ponds, this is just the most magical place. I’m writing a story on it for Cape Town Mag currently, and I’ve had a wonderful time chatting to Andre and spending time surrounded by nature. If you have a Sunday morning free, go to the Erf81 Market run independently by Tyisa Nabanye or just arrive at the farm with willing hands and time to spare and go to work in the garden – there’s always something that needs planting. Nothing is better for healing the heart than gardening and a very friendly kitten.
